ALROSA receives positive findings of a state ecological appraisal of the Verchne-Munskoye deposit

Rospririodnadzor issued final positive conclusion of an expert commission of the State Environmental Expert Review of design documentation of development of reserves of the deposit “Verchne-Munskoye”, the press-service of “ALROSA” stated. Representatives of the Institute of Mining Affairs named after N.V.Chersky of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Rosprirodnadzor in the republic, engineers of OJSC “Airline Yakutia”, experts of OJSC “Surgutneftegaz” were in the Commission. Experts stated that the principle of transparency was observed during the development of the documentation in full. There were carried out public hearings in the Olenevsky district in early 2016.

- The Commission describes main characteristics of the field, as well as natural peculiarities of the territory. The document reminds that there grow and found no species, listed in the Red Book, in this area. What is more, there is a list of measures to prevent possible negative impact on the environment, and there approved measures for land reclamation. It is stated in the conclusion about environmental monitoring scheme, which also includes monitoring of migration of reindeer with the help of GPRS-navigators. Positive decision is one of the permits for the start of development of the deposit. Besides the existing document, they plan to obtain a series of permits and licenses for the operation of various facilities in the area in future. In particular, there will appear and operate hydraulic power system on the river Bezymyanny, various hydro-treatment facilities, deputy chief engineer for Environmental Protection of the Udachninsky GOK A.Fedorov said.

Project documentation has been developed and approved whereas it is necessary to start diamond mining at the quarry “Zapolyarny” and “Magnitny” on the Verchne-Munskoye field. The depth of ore mining will reach 400 meters. It involves mining of reserves within the boundary of the site.
